Fowl play

A group of first-graders at St. Paul’s Lutheran School anxiously awaits the arrival of the school’s principal, Belinda Granlund, who dressed as a chicken on March 12 after students raised $1,194 for Pennies for Patients. Granlund told the students if they raised more than $1,000 for leukemia and lymphoma patients, they could choose what she would do for a day (with the exception of shaving her head). “I am proud to wear a chicken suit for their hard work,” Granlund said. The "Better Homes and Gardens" feature isn't the first time Horn, a Scott-Carver Master Gardener, has shared her yard space with the public. In July 2009 she hosted a public viewing of her garden, with proceeds going to support the Piper Breast Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Some attendees wielded band instruments while others wore bright, yellow stickers proclaiming “Synergy is important.” Many members of the audience did both.
