A year after his brother was committed to a state hospital for being sexually dangerous, John Jerry Cermak has had his indefinite commitment affirmed by the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
Fifty-seven-year-old Cermak, a convicted child sex abuser set to be paroled, could now spend the rest of his life at a treatment facility for sexual offenders.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving a case of vandalism that occurred outside the new Spring Lake Township Hall on July 28.
Security cameras show a white SUV entering the town hall parking lot and six people exiting the vehicle. Video and still-frame images show the group entering the pavilion area and damaging light fixtures.
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting that anyone with information on the vehicle or any of the individuals contact Detective Robert Ryan at (952) 496-8410 or rryan@co.scott.mn.us.

A 28-year-old Prior Lake man was killed in a one-vehicle roll-over Wednesday night in Spring Lake Township, just outside the city of Prior Lake
limits.
Witnesses report that Robert Lee Brown, Jr., was driving carelessly southbound on Marschall Road, passing people on the shoulder and traveling at a high rate of speed, before he lost control of his pick-up truck, which rolled several times, and was ejected, according to Scott County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Swedin. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s Deputy Bret Krick says a 16-year-old Shakopee boy is "lucky" to be alive after falling off a pontoon two weekends ago and being cut by the propeller.
The boy had been involved in an underage drinking party that was discovered by Krick as he was patrolling Lake O'Dowd.
The boy's arm was cut to the bone and fractured, and his foot was
sliced approximately three inches clear through, down from the webbing between his big and index toe.
WASHINGTON — Law enforcement agencies in Scott County and three of its cities are among recipients in the metropolitan area that will share $9 million for law enforcement efforts, it was announced by Sen. Amy Klobuchar today.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office will receive $10,104. Police departments in Shakopee, Prior Lake and Savage also will receive funding. Prior Lake will get $22,070; Savage, $27,388, and Shakopee, $40,683.

A Jordan woman is in custody after authorities say she fled a traffic stop late Tuesday night, leading deputies on a chase through Spring Lake Township.
Multiple charges are pending against the 18-year-old driver, whom authorities say took off after a deputy pulled her over at 10:50 p.m. in the hamlet of Lydia, at the intersection of Highway 13 and 205th Street.

A Shakopee man was drunk and driving negligently on Feb. 7 when his vehicle crossed a median and crashed head-on into another vehicle, killing a Prior Lake man, prosecutors allege.
