DWI enforcement to increase over Labor Day weekend

Motorists can expect heightened DWI (driving while impaired) enforcement efforts statewide this Labor Day weekend, which is the seventh deadliest weekend of the year for alcohol-related deaths, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety.

Around 400 Minnesota law enforcement agencies will conduct intense DWI enforcement throughout the weekend, accompanied by 10,000 agencies nationwide. Police departments from Shakopee and area cities and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office will participate.

Basement Bar and Grill fails liquor compliance check

The Basement Bar and Grill failed an alcohol compliance check conducted this week by the Prior Lake Police Department.

Police conducted a round of the biannual alcohol compliance checks on nine of the licensed liquor sellers in the city on Aug. 31. All of the businesses passed except for the Basement Bar and Grill, 16691 Highway 13.This is the first time the bar has failed a compliance check.



163 DWI arrests reported in first two weekends of statewide enhanced enforcement

The Minnesota State Patrol has arrested 163 motorists for driving while impaired (DWI) during a statewide impaired-driving enforcement campaign that started Aug. 20 and runs through Labor Day.

The State Patrol arrested 60 motorists during the first weekend of enforcement and another 64 this past weekend.

Arrest results from around 400 participating agencies will be available in mid-September. A similar statewide DWI enforcement effort in 2009 resulted in 1,873 DWI arrests.
