Soukup is the daughter of Steve Soukup and Pattie Hanson of Prior Lake. She attended Prior Lake High School and the University of Minnesota and is an air traffic controller for the FAA.

Schmitz is the son of Doug and Cindy Schmitz of Cold Spring. He attended Rocori High School and St. Cloud State University and is a physical education teacher/coach in the Shakopee School District.

A March 28, 2009 wedding is planned.
