As I was watching the home run derby last night, I couldn't help but get wrapped up in Josh Hamilton's first-round display as did the fans at Yankee Stadium, but after listening to Justin Morneau give his interview following the derby, I came to realize what a class act the Twins have as a first basemen.
Morneau became the first Twin to win the home run derby after slugging 22 homers on 30 outs.
But the most impressive part was that Morneau was nothing but humble as he accepted the home run derby Monday night. As cameras pan to him during Hamilton's final round, Morneau was cheering his Ranger home run derby counterpart on, and in my opinion that showed nothing but class. Morneau continued cheering Hamilton on even through the final round.
As Morneau was being crowned the new home run king he graciously pointed to Hamilton as the night's hero, when he was announced as the winner, the announcer called him "Jason," and he handled that with pride.
How do you call him Jason? Morneau is a MVP and alongside "Baby Jesus" he is the face of the Twins organization.
Anyways, home runs aside, I gained a lot of respect for Morneau last night. I'm proud to call him oone of my favorite Twins.
What did you think of the home run derby?
What were you most impressed with, the home runs or the way Morneau carried himself?
