The Scott County Relay for Life planning committee is extending an invitation to all cancer survivors (including those currently battling cancer) to participate in a “victory lap” at this summer’s Relay for Life event.
Cancer survivors will join together immediately after the opening ceremony to walk the first lap to begin the 2008 Relay. The opening ceremony starts at 7 p.m. Friday, July 11 at Vaughan Field at Shakopee Junior High School, 200 10th Ave. E.
Immediately after the opening lap, all cancer survivors are invited to the survivors tent for refreshments. At dark, the luminaria lighting ceremony honors all people who have been touched by cancer. The luminaries remain lit until the next morning as a reminder that cancer never sleeps.
The Relay for Life is the signature fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society
