The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, the Three Rivers Park District and the City of Prior Lake will team up to co-sponsor the third Dakotah! Sport and Fitness Lakefront Days Triathlon at Cleary Lake Regional Park, 18106 Texas Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 2, as part of the Lakefront Days celebration.

The triathlon will start at 8 a.m. with a 1/4-mile swim at Cleary Lake Beach. The swim is followed by a 14.2-mile bicycle loop through county roads. The third component is a 3.4-mile run through Cleary Lake Regional Park. An awards ceremony will follow the event with awards to the top three male and top three female finishers and the first place finisher in each of the men's and women's age group categories.All participants will receive a t-shirt and race bag in addition to a participation medal.

The field of up to 400 participants will be distributed into twelve waves by age category or as needed. Age categories are 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+ years of age.

Registration costs $55 before July 13. Registration from July 14-July 28 costs $65. Registration closes July 28.

"We're excited that we've been able to coordinate this outdoor event with the City of Prior Lake and the Three Rivers Park District. Last year's event was tremendously successful so we are hoping to fill the field of 400 participants," said Tad Dunsworth, director of Dakotah! Sport and Fitness.

The triathlon will require the cooperation of a number of entities including the Prior Lake Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff's Department, the Prior Lake Chamber of Commerce and between 75 and 100 volunteers along the routes.
