Track: Laker girls second at true team; boys are seventh

The Prior Lake girls track team made a run at the Section 3AAA True Team title on May 7, but couldn’t catch one team – Eastview.

The Lakers scored 696.5 team points to finish second. Eastview ran away from the eight-team field with 793.5 points. Apple Valley was third (671), followed by Rosemount (653), Farmington (521), Shakopee (503), Richfield (347.5) and Bloomington Kennedy (279.5).

“Eastview is very tough with a lot of depth,” said Lakers coach Michelle Perkins. “It was nice to beat Apple Valley. They were ranked No. 1 in the state (going into the meet). Overall, it was not our best meet, but we still had some very good performances.”

The Lakers will have some time to rest before the Missota Conference Championships, which are set for May 20 and 22 in Prior Lake.

Prior Lake had three runner-up finishes at the true team. Junior Sam Olson was second in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 2 1/2 inches as well as taking third in the discus (107-3). Senior Michelle Mannchen was second in the discus (112-5) and junior Paige Kuplic was second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.86 seconds.

Kuplic was also fourth in the 100 (12.64) and eighth n the 400 (1:01.51).

Eighth-grader Taylor Scholl had a strong meet, taking third in the 3,200 (11:58.00) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:23.25).

“Taylor had a great day,” said Perkins. “(The 1,600 and 3,200) are a tough double in one meet for an eighth-grader.”

Sophomore Niki Porter had personal-best times in the 100 and 300 hurdles, taking fifth (16.48) and third (48.66), respectively.

Sophomore Paige Foster was fourth in the 800 (2:24.53) and sixth in the 1,600 (5:26.79).

Senior Heather Hagelberger was third in the pole vault (9-6), while junior Ailey Gunderson was fifth in both the long jump (16-7 1/2) and the triple jump (33-6 1/2).

Sophomore Sami Kemper was sixth in the long jump (16-4 1/2) and seventh in the triple jump (33-3/4), while ninth-grader Katie Nielson was eighth in the long jump (15-7 3/4).

Seniors Whitney Wise and Holly Hoffman both tied for ninth in the high jump (4-8), Hoffman was also eighth in the pole vault (8-0). Ninth-grader Kaiti Porter was eighth in the 3,200 (12:22.0).

In the relays, the Lakers’ 4 x 200 team of ninth-graders Haley Kemper and Alex Citrowske, senior Katie Bjorge and Nielson was third (1:50.06), while the 4 x 100 relay team of Hagelberger, Kemper, sophomore Kelly Pryga and Gunderson was fourth (51.85).

Meanwhile, the Prior Lake boys team took seventh at its section true team meet with 493.5 points.

Farmington was the winner with 756.5 points, followed by Rosemount (745.5), Apple Valley (723), Eastview (683.5), Richfield (553) and Shakopee (508.5). Kennedy was eighth (278.5).

Senior Jordan Schultz had the Lakers’ best finish taking fourth in the pole vault with a leap of 11-6.

Senior Anthony Kemper was sixth in the 400 with personal-best time of 52.09, seventh in the triple jump (38-10 3/4) and ninth in the long jump (19-10 1/2). Senior Kyle Kreimer was seventh in the 100 hurdles (17.09) and eighth in the 300 hurdles (43.12).

Senior David Shimek was eighth in the discus (132-6) and 10th in the shot put with personal-best toss (42-8 3/4).

The Lakers’4 x 800 relay team of Kemper and seniors Wesley Milde, Scott Tovsen and Dustin Cain took fourth with a personal-best time of 3:30.5.

Prior Lake went into the section true team taking seventh out of seven teams at the Carleton Interscholastic Relays on May 3. Fargo South won the title, followed by Eden Prairie and Osseo.

The top finishes for the Lakers came from the 4 x 100 relay team of juniors George Cherucheril, Dustin Evanson and Nate Plumb and eighth-grader Jake Devers (46.16).

Shimek was third in the discus (140-2).

The boys team will also compete in the Missota Conference Championships on May 20 and 22 in Prior Lake.
