The Prior Lake synchronized swimming team may have gone 0-4 in its routines meets this spring, but there’s still a lot of optimism for sections and state.
The section meet is slated for Tuesday, May 13, and Saturday, May 17 in Eden Prairie, while the state meet will follow on May 22-23 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Prior Lake coach Katy Bohnsack is looking to send as many as seven different routines to the state meet.
“The team is very excited about the section meet,” said Bohnsack. “We have improved significantly over the last week and feel that we will be strong in figures and routines.”
Prior Lake finished the regular season on May 7 with a 33-13 loss to Eden Prairie. The Lakers headed into the meet on the heels of a 31-15 loss to Bloomington on May 1.
Laura Gerold and Julia Luger were second in duets in the loss to Bloomington with a score 62.834, while the trios team of Stacy Klinkhamer, Sadie Lawman and Colleen Mooney was also runner-up (5.9833).
In the teams division, Gerold, Klinkhamer, Lawman, Luger and Mooney were second (62.25). Mooney was also runner-up in solos (64.0).
Jordan Benner, Stefany Burroughs and Anne-Marie Card were third in the trios (53.500).
In the loss to Eden Prairie, the Lakers’ top finishers all took second. They included Mooney in the solos (64.834), Gerold and Luger in the duets (62.500), Klinkhamer, Lawman and Mooney in trios (64.333) and Gerold, Klinkhamer, Lawman, Luger and Mooney in the teams division (66.750).
“The meet went well,” said Bohnsack. “It was a great chance to swim in the same pool as the section meet will be held. We will be more prepared (for sections).”
