City to sell project bonds

Prior Lake City Council members will meet on Monday, April 28 to approve the sale of $1.3 million in general obligation improvement bonds to finance the Ida Circle city utility and the first phase of Brooksville Hills street reconstruction.

By selling the bonds before construction season, when demand is at its peak, the city would avoid higher interest rates due to an increase in the supply of bonds, said Steve Mattson of Northland Securities, which would buy the bonds from the city.

City to replace trees on 21, 82

The city will try to make up for the loss of up to 50 trees removed during construction of county roads 21 and 82.

About 30 trees will be replaced along County Road 21 near Windsor Lane and along County Road 82 near the retaining wall at Bay Knolls Drive, at a cost of $7,800.

Steve Albrecht, director of public works, said the location of existing utilities along the roads limits the number of trees the city can replace. The city already relocated about 12 large trees from the County Road 21 project area, Albrecht added. Those trees were replanted at the city’s maintenance center on Adelmann Street, at the police station site on Dakota Street, in Enclave Park and at the County Road 21/Highland Avenue intersection.

Also, the council already approved a plan for an easement agreement on the Schneider property to replace trees for up to $2,200. The easement was needed to realign an existing trail due to the County Road 21 project, Albrecht said.

Funding for tree replacement will come from the city’s street oversize fund.
