Faulty electrical wiring from an electric-powered winch was the cause of a house fire at 6051 217th St. in Credit River Township around 4:10 p.m. on March 6.
The electric-powered winch was used to lift hot tubs for transport.
The fire started with an electric-powered winch attached to a truck parked in the garage at the home, said Ron Rahman, an investigator for the Minnesota Fire Marshall’s Office.
A short circuit in the wiring from the motor to the circuit board caused the wiring to overheat, Rahman said. The fire started in the garage and spread to the house, causing about $200,000 in damages to the home.
