A 20-year-old Burnsville woman was charged with two counts of second-degree driving while impaired (DWI) and one count of failure to stop for an accident by the Scott County Attorney’s Office this week for hitting a Prior Lake squad car Feb. 10.

Brittany Lynn Deason was arrested and jailed after she hit a Prior Lake squad car making a traffic stop with emergency lights activated near Langford Boulevard and Vergus Avenue in Spring Lake Township at 1:17 a.m. Feb. 10.

The crash caused $1,066 in damages to the squad. Prior Lake police officer Adam Boser was inside the car when it was hit, but he was not injured.

According to the criminal complaint, Deason’s blood alcohol content was .27 – more than three times the legal limit – an hour and a half after the crash.

After crashing into the squad car, Deason continued driving. Boser immediately followed Deason and stopped her just before the intersection of Highway 13 and Vergus Avenue, according to the complaint.

Boser asked if Deason if she was aware of what just happened and Deason stated, “Yes, I hit your vehicle,” the complaint stated.

Boser noticed Deason’s eyes were bloodshot and watery and her speech was slurred. Deason failed a field-sobriety test and also failed the initial preliminary alcohol screening test, according to the complaint.

Deason had a previous DWI conviction in March 2006.

If convicted, Deason faces a maximum of two years and 90 days in prison and a $7,000 fine.
