Minnesota Thunder to play in PL

The Minnesota Thunder soccer team will take on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Laker Field next to Twin Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be ordered online at www.priorlakesoccer.org.

 

Girls tennis captains’ practice

The Laker girls tennis captains' practices will be held at the PLHS courts on Aug. 1, 3, 6, 8 and 10 from 9-11 a.m. Players should dress for the weather and bring water.

In addition, there will be a players meeting on Aug. 13 at 8:30 a.m. at the PLHS courts, followed by the first practice until 10:30 a.m.

 

Girls soccer captains’ practice

Captains’ practice for the Prior Lake High School girls soccer team will be held Aug. 6-10 at Twin Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake.

Times will be as follows: 8-9 a.m. for grades 9-10 and 9:15-10:15 a.m. for grades 11-12.

All girls entering grades 9-12 who are interested in playing are encouraged to attend.

Players should bring water, soccer cleats, running shoes, a soccer ball and shin guards. For additional information, call 440-4915 or 440-8598.

 

3-on-3 hoops tourney slated

As part of the annual Lakefront Days celebration in Prior Lake, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for boys and girls entering grades 3-12 has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4, at PLHS.

The cost is $5 per team, and teams will be put into three different age levels: grades 3-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the tournament, which runs from 9-10:30 a.m.

 

Laker ‘garage sale’ on tap

A Laker "garage sale" to raise funds for the PLHS wrestling, softball and cross-country teams will take place in blue gym at PLHS from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.

People interested in donating usable and workable items should call (no mattresses or computer equipment, please).

Drop-off times at the blue gym are from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, and from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Youth hockey registration

Online registration for the Prior Lake-Savage Youth Hockey Association’s 2007-08 season will begin soon at www.plsha.com.

Registration for traveling boys and girls will run from July 30 through Aug. 15. Registration for mites and mini-mites will run from Aug. 20 through Sept. 23. Registration for Jr. Gold boys will run from Oct. 15 through Nov. 30.

There will also be an in-person registration session for mites and mini-mites only from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23. For more information, visit the club’s website.

 


Laker lacrosse camps on tap

A pair of Laker lacrosse camps has been scheduled for July 30 through Aug. 2 at Twin Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake. The cost of the camp is $55 via mail or $60 via same-day in-person registration.

The camp directors are Laker alumni Chris Fleck and Amanda Rose. Fleck played for nationally ranked Minnesota-Duluth for the past four years, while Rose is currently a captain on the University of Minnesota women’s team.

The camps are for boys entering grades 5-10 and girls entering grades 5-12, and sessions will run from 5-8 p.m.

PLHS fall sports registration info

Prior Lake High School will be holding fall sports registration and rules meetings at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9. All athletes are required to attend one of the meetings. Practices begin on Monday, Aug. 13.

Registration for middle-school sports will take place when school starts. This registration is only for athletes participating in high school sports, including seventh- and eighth-graders wanting to participate in swimming or cross-country.

Athletes should bring all registration forms and fees, along with a copy of their new physical in the previous one has expired or they are new to the program. If your last physical is dated after May 15, 2005, it is acceptable for the 2007-08 school year.

Registration forms are available outside the PLHS Activities Office during the month of July, and forms are also available on the school’s web site.

 

P.L.A.Y. fall softball registration

The Prior Lake Athletics for Youth (P.L.A.Y.) fastpitch softball program is now accepting registrations for its fall season. The fall league features a shortened season that allows players to continue to develop their skills.

Those that played In-House softball this past year will that this league helps their transition to the traveling program, should they choose to join next summer. For more information, go to www.playinfo.org.

 

TAGS Gymnastics registration

TAGS Gymnastics is now accepting registrations for its fall session, which begins Sept. 4. Classes are offered for boys and girls ages 2-17 of all ability levels. For more information, go to www.tagsgym.com.

 

P.L.A.Y. fall sports registration

The Prior Lake Athletics for Youth (P.L.A.Y.) program is now accepting registrations for its fall football and volleyball teams. Online registration for both programs will be conducted at www.playinfo.org.

The football program is for those entering grades 3-8, and online registration will be available until Aug. 2. The volleyball program is for those entering grades 5-6, and registration will run online through Aug. 3.

Coaches are also needed for all sports, and anyone interested should check the program’s Web site for an application or more information.

 

Fall adult softball registration

Prior Lake Recreation is offering four adult one-pitch format fall softball leagues at the Ponds Athletic Complex beginning the week of Aug. 27.

Women’s (Mondays), Men’s (Thursdays), Co-Rec (Fridays) and Church (Sundays) leagues will be available.

ASA rules will be followed, and the league duration will be five weeks of doubleheaders. The league fee is $315 (plus non-resident fees if applicable). For more information or to register, call Nancy or Angie at 447-9820 or go to www.cityofpriorlake.com.

 

PLHS strength, conditioning

The Prior Lake High School summer strength and conditioning program for those currently in grades 7-12 has started and will run through Aug. 10 (weekdays only).

Sessions will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Speed and agility work at the PLHS track will run from 9:30-10 a.m., and the PLHS weight room will open at 10 a.m. There will also be sessions from 6-8 p.m. each weeknight. The cost is $80.

Those students entering grades 9-12 who want to train in a more competitive atmosphere this summer should contact Coach McDonald or Coach Gegenheimer to get details on the Summer Strength Team.

Workouts for the Summer Strength Team will run from 8-9:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday for 11th- and 12th-graders and from 8:30-10 a.m. Monday through Thursday for ninth- and 10th-graders. There is an additional cost for the Summer Strength Team.

Prior Lake Running Club info

The Prior Lake Running Club meets once or twice a week in the evenings to go running in the Prior Lake area. The fun-oriented group is flexible and base the distance of the runs on those participating, sometimes splitting into two groups for different distances.

The club welcomes a wide range of runners, from those training for marathons to those who simply want to go jogging a couple of times per week. Members of the club took home first place in the "out-of-town" category at last year’s half-marathon relay race in New Prague.

The club is free to join and meets year-round, and it’s headed by Dough Krohn, a veteran of 20 marathons. For more information, email him at doug.krohn@comcast.net, or call him at 651-747-1246.
