Golf: Laker girls eye Missota, section meets
May 17, 2008 - 10:23am — Mark Nesvig
With a score of 402, the Laker girls placed seventh in the 13-team Lakeville North Invitational at Heritage Links May 14. Lakeville North shot 343 to claim top honors, while Faribault (353), Bloomington Jefferson (377) and New Prague (377) rounded out the top four. Lane Dulon, who carded a 93, was the Lakers’ top performer. The Lakers had gone into the match on the heels of a third-place showing at a four-team Missota Conference meet May 12 in Hutchinson. Dulon (96) and Nikki Novak (97) both shot under 100 for Prior Lake, while Kaylie Johnson (101) and Ellie Huntington (104) rounded out the team’s top four for a score of 398. At a full conference meet in Northfield May 8, the Lakers placed sixth in the eight-team field with a score of 397. Dulon again led the way for the Lakers with a 95, followed by Huntington at 96, Johnson at 102 and Novak at 104. “I think we’re improving, it’s just that our scores don’t entirely reflect that,” said Lakers head coach Corey Carney. “We seem to be beating teams we didn’t beat before, but I still don’t think we’re reaching our potential.” Up next for the Laker girls are the Missota Conference championships, which are slated for 2 p.m. on Monday, May 19, at Stonebrooke. The section tournament follows at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, in Oakdale.
