Golf: Laker boys bracing for postseason
May 17, 2008 - 10:20am — Mark Nesvig
A team score of 320 netted the Laker boys’ golfers a fifth-place showing in a full Missota Conference meet at Hutchinson May 14. Holy Angels shot 312 to claim the team title, followed by New Prague at 317, Hutchinson at 318 and Red Wing at 319. Shakopee (328), Farmington (344) and Northfield (345) rounded out the field. Sophomore Alex Zeyen and freshman John Hafdal led the way for Prior Lake, firing matching 77s. “Those two guys are both shooting very well and keeping us in matches,” said Lakers head coach Ross Lussenhop. “We just need a couple of other guys to come around to be more competitive.” Senior Luke Metzger and junior Coby Rowley, who shot matching 83s, rounded out the Lakers’ top four. Seniors Bill Chopp (88) and Scott Lee (91) also competed for the Lakers. The fifth-place team showing left the Lakers in a fourth-place tie with Holy Angels in the overall conference standings behind New Prague, Red Wing and Hutchinson heading into the May 19 Missota championships (1 p.m.) at The Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan. The Section 2AAA tournament follows at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, at Oakdale Golf Club. In other action this past week, the Lakers placed second in a four-team conference meet at Northfield May 12. Metzger led the way for Prior Lake with an 81 that was good for second overall, followed by Hafdal at 83, Chopp and Zeyen at 85, Rowley at 91 and Lee at 92. The Lakers also took part in a section preview meet at Oakdale on May 9 and placed fifth in the eight-team field. Eden Prairie rolled to the team title with a 292, followed by Chaska at 305, Bloomington Jefferson at 313, Hutchinson at 315 and Prior Lake at 317. Metzger was the Lakers’ low man with a 77, and Chopp (79), Lee (80) and Zeyen (81) were close behind. Rowley (85) and Hafdal (88) also played.
