School Board passes goal achievement
May 8, 2008 - 12:34pm — Shawn Hogendorf
The Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board unanimously accepted Superintendent Tom Westerhaus’ 2007-08 goal achievement form on Monday night. The School Board will review the form and to use it to evaluate Westerhaus’ performance. Westerhaus laid out his procedure, timelines and level of attainment of his 2007-08 goals which included work with communications, staff development, facilities, community resources, challenge students to be successful and global education. Westerhaus said he provided complete information about the referendum and bond issue in written and presentation formats to be sure the electorate was well-informed prior to voting. “I do believe every attempt at getting information was made,” Westerhaus said. “But I don’t know that it was received.” With regard to his goals with facilities, Westerhaus said the construction of Redtail Ridge will be completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Purchasing equipment and opening the school is delayed until revenue is available, he said. A second facility goal was to oversee the design development for the Prior Lake High School addition. The bond failed, but Westerhaus said he has met with the Growth Task Force to reframe recommendations for the future. Westerhaus also said he feels he reached his goals to ensure learners the opportunity to participate in their community, nation and world as responsible global citizens. Westerhaus said he achieved this goal by expanding the IB program at Twin Oaks Middle School to include all students in 2008-09 and the dedication of Prior Lake High School as an International Peace Site. -- Shawn Hogendorf
