Food bids

are limited

Apparently, the slogan “Nobody doesn’t like Sara Lee!” will be true in the Prior Lake-Savage Area School District next year, and everyone will like Kemps dairy, as well.

The district opened bids for milk & dairy products, as well as bakery products, however other contenders barely entered the running.

Requests for additional dairy bids were sent to Meyer Bros. Dairy, Hastings Co-op Creamery, Schroeder Milk and Land O’ Lakes Milk/Dean Foods, according to the bid analysis. Land O’ Lakes was the only other contender for the dairy bid.

Meyer Bros., who provided dairy service last year, did not enter a bid.

For baked goods, no other bidders entered the running, and Pan-O-Gold Baking Company and Interstate Brand Corp (Wonder/Hostess) did not enter requested bids.

The School Board approved Sara Lee and Kemps as winners of the 2008-09 bid Monday in a 6-0 vote with Board Member Michael Murray absent.

The School Board approved adding 2.5 paraprofessional positions Monday to serve students at Edgewood School, and Five Hawks and Jeffers Pond elementaries.

Teachers and principals requested the additional staff members to meet students Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). The additional positions were paid for from the special education contingency fund, which is reimbursed through state funding.

Positions will be reviewed quarterly to confirm they fulfill demonstrated student needs.

Parents to cut

paper costs

Elementary school principals gained School Board approval of the 2008-09 parent/student handbooks Monday, and with the OK encouraged parents to go online when referencing the booklet.

Handbooks will continue to be available in print upon request, however, to reduce costs and save trees, administrators will encourage parents to checkout the online version.

The elementary schools did not make changes to the handbook, which is the same other than site-specific issues, district wide.
