School Board approves Spanish trip to Mexico
May 12, 2008 - 11:10am — Shawn Hogendorf
The Prior Lake High School Spanish department will take a trip to Mexico next spring break. The School Board unanimously passed the proposal during the May 5 meeting that will give students the opportunity to immerse themselves in Mexican culture, practice their oral skills in a Spanish speaking country and take guided tours with a Spanish-speaking tour guide. The trip will come as no cost to the district. The tour will cost $1,625 and will be independently funded by the families of the students attending. The students will arrive in Mexico City, where they will tour the Museum of Anthropology, visit the Diego Rivera murals at the National Palace and visit the great pyramids along the Street of the Dead, among other guided tours. Then students will travel to Xochimilco where they will ride boats in the ancient Aztec canals before heading off to Taxco for more culture and shopping. From Taxco the students will go to Acapulco for three days before returning home. “I’ve read several letters of recommendation by other Spanish teachers who have taken students on Interact tours,” Davis said to the board. “I feel sure that this tour reflects what I want my students to know and love about Mexico.”
