Letters from the July 4 Prior Lake American

Family would
like bikes
returned
To the people who took our bikes on June 24-25: I hope whoever took our bikes during the night or early morning enjoys them. I want you to know that the men’s bike you took was a Father’s Day gift to my husband and he got to ride it two times.
I hope you get more enjoyment out of it than he got. You left two other bikes here; obviously some little girl and boy woke up in the morning to their bikes gone also. So if you are missing a yellow BMX boy’s bike and a blue/silver girl’s bike, the Prior Lake Police Department have yours. If by chance whoever took our bikes would like to return our bikes no questions asked, we would appreciate it.

Freedoms are
diminished by
politicians
An open letter to fellow citizens:
What do big government Republicans/Democrats have in common with totalitarians, socialists and anarchists? Their approach to politics requires that your freedom and mine be diminished as they achieve their political objectives. For that reason, they could be described as extremists (see the chart at the link below).
In contrast, conservatives and those in either party who embrace the concept of limited government have staked out political territory that is very middle of the road. Such patriots recognize that too much government spells certain death to individual liberty. They also accept that limited government is necessary to protect against anarchy.
Currently in St. Paul and Washington, there are too many in both parties wanting to grow government even bigger than it is already. By spending foolishly, they are literally taxing generations of citizens yet unborn. Such extreme behavior is simply ruining our country. As the world’s leading debtor nation, will U.S. sovereignty remain intact? As our savings are eroded by inflation and as our investments wither in an economic environment that increasingly punishes success, will citizens be able to provide for their families adequately? As more and more people become beneficiaries of various state programs, will we still reason as a free people, or will we slip into the entitlement mentality so common in socialist countries?
The restraints on government outlined in the Constitution are not to be ignored or we will see our freedom brokered away by clueless (or maybe not so clueless) politicians. Our freedoms come from God and are inalienable. Maximum freedom can exist only in the environment of limited government. A small swing toward larger government or too little government results in diminished liberty for the citizens of this republic. Isn’t freedom the thing we should insist be preserved above all else? We need to vote for only those people who agree and make sure that the rest are sent packing. We owe that to generations past and generations yet unborn. By any objective standard, we are sliding away from the freedom envisioned by the founders of our country.
