ZilaTwo Prior Lake residents have announced they will seek the DFL party’s endorsement for the District 35A House seat, which includes Prior Lake and Shakopee.

Last week, former Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board Member Sue Bruns announced that she will pursue election to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Bruns will seek the Democratic Party nomination for District 35A to run against Rep. Mike Beard, R-35A, this fall.

“Tuesday’s caucus really crystallized it for me,” Bruns said of her decision to run for the House.

Bruns served on the School Board for 11 years. She opted not to seek re-election last fall.

This week, Doug Zila of Shakopee also announced his intent Brunsto seek the DFL endorsement for the District 35A seat.

Zila said he’s running because “the race is about making sure the families of Prior Lake and Shakopee have a legislator who really shares their values of hard work, respect and fiscal responsibility.”
