Man sentenced to 65 months in prison for possession of cocaine
May 9, 2008 - 10:18am — Shawn Hogendorf
A 34-year-old Prior Lake man was sentenced to serve 65 months in prison for first-degree possession of a controlled substance on April 15 by Scott County Judge Michael Fahey. Juan Antonio Garcia Zambrano was sentenced to serve 43 months and 10 days in prison custody and 21 months and 20 days supervised release, credit for time served as determined by the jail and work release, if eligible. Zambrano was also sentenced to provide a DNA sample. Zambrano pleaded guilty one count of possession of a controlled substance. The second count he faced, intent to sell a controlled substance, was dismissed. On June 3, the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force seized 41 grams of cocaine during a search and seizure in the 4600 block of Tower Street. Upon searching the residence, the drug task force seized 41 grams of cocaine, 5.1 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, two digital scales, cash and a false Minnesota identification card, according to the criminal complaint. The false identification card was not Zambrano’s. Zambrano previously served four years in prison for a McLeod County drug offense. He was released in March 2007. Zambrano faced a maximum of 60 years in prison and a $2 million fine. Shawn Hogendorf can be reached at (952) 345-6374 or shogendorf@swpub.com.
