Three big events will take place in Prior Lake on the Fourth of July, including an annual bike ride named after a local businessman, a fireworks display and a perennial favorite, the Fourth of July boat parade.

The day will begin with the annual Great Scott 50 Frank Wicker Bike Ride at 8 a.m. at Memorial Park in Prior Lake.

Prior Lake police officer Darcy White was named to the Department of Public Safety’s first-ever “DWI Enforcer All-Star Team” on July 1.

Schoenecker-Reese

Rachel Ann Schoenecker and Travis Duane Reese were married June 7, 2008 at Bethesda Church in Prior Lake.

Avenging a pair of earlier losses to Chaska, the Prior Lake Jays topped the Cubs 6-4 on July 1, improving to 15-9 overall on the season.

The Jays struck early with a five-run second inning that featured six hits.

Tim Garceau led off the pivotal second inning with a home run, his team-leading fourth of the season. He went 3-for-5 in the game and leads the Jays with a .443 batting average this season.

After taking two out of their past three, the Prior Lake Mudcats raised their record to 12-5 overall as the all-star break draws near.

The annual all-star game between the Dakota-Rice-Scott and River Valley leagues is set for July 11 at Arlington.

Representing Prior Lake on the DRS team are Noah Rezac, Ben Schmidt and Greg Faue. Rezac leads the team with a .413 batting average this year, while Faue (.359) and Schmidt (.344) rank second and third, respectively.

Former Laker and current University of Minnesota swimmer Kim Kazika was part of an elite group of competitors taking part in this week’s U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.

“It was the most nerve-wracking experience I’ve ever had,” Kazika said. “It was really cool, though.”

Kazika, a 2006 graduate of Prior Lake High School, was one of just 106 swimmers in the nation to earn a spot in the Olympic Trials for the 100-meter breaststroke.
