The Lakers went 4-0 in the tournament, posting wins over Minnehaha Academy, Mora and Vistiation. In the title match, Sami Kemper led the Lakers with 10 kills, while Emily Holte had eight and Brittni Wangerin had six. Kathryn Gaydos had 28 setting assists, two service aces and seven digs. Katelyn Behrens had a team-high 12 digs. Prior Lake lost both matches by a 6-1 margin - to Eastview and to Smiley. The Lakers will try to get back on track on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when it plays at Red Wing in a Missota Conference match. The dual meet went down to the last race - the 400-yard freestyle relay - and the Wingers won the event and took third to earn a 94-91 win over the Lakers. The Lakers took second and fourth in the 400 free relay. The Wingers are a perennial power in Class A, taking eighth in the state team standings last season. Paige Kuplic and Chloe Winkelman each had goals for the Lakers, while Samantha Buescher and Jenna Nelson each had assists. Kristine Thielen made seven saves in goal to get the shutout. However, the Lakers were swept in singles, which resulted in a 4-3 loss to the rival Stars. The Lakers' winning doubles teams were the No. 1 tandem of Kristen Tusa and Leah Peterson (5-7, 6-1, 6-1), the No. 2 team of Alex Fasking and Madison Skalecki (6-0, 6-2) and the third team of Brittany Jaderston and Heidi Auringer (4-6, 6-4, 6-4). The Lakers got goals from David Wee and Brendan Rose in a 2-1 win over Holy Angels. Prior Lake improved to 1-0-1 in the confernece (3-1-2 overall). David Lee and Aaron Johnson each had assists in the win, while David Byrne made five saves in goal.
