Charges dismissed in burglary, assault of 74-year-old woman
August 8, 2008 - 11:56am — Shawn Hogendorf
Charges were dismissed against a 17-year-old Prior Lake boy in connection with the burglary and assault of a 74-year-old Prior Lake woman that occurred in April. Holden Smith was cleared of first-degree burglary and third-degree assault charges, which were dropped by prosecution, based on the result of lab tests in Scott County court on July 22. “The facts on the continuing investigation indicate we [Scott County Attorney’s Office] needed to dismiss the charges in the interest of justice on Holden Smith for right now,” said Lori Lambrecht, Scott County Attorney’s Office manager. Police continue to investigate the burglary and assault that occurred in the 16900 block of Lyons Avenue around 2:32 a.m. on April 27, said Prior Lake Det. Chris Olson. Police are currently looking into two suspects in connection with the case, he said. The investigation relies heavily on science at this point, Olson said. Investigators are still waiting for the lab results on a couple of key items, he said. Smith denied any involvement in the burglary throughout the investigation, according to the criminal complaint. -- Shawn Hogendorf
