The groundbreaking ceremony for the International Peace Poles Site is set for 3 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at Prior Lake High School, 7575 150th St., Savage.

Sophomore Zach Muench designed a garden area near the student entrance that will serve as the setting for the poles. Muench will plant and maintain the garden as part of an Eagle Scout project.

Two businesses failed the tobacco compliance checks police conducted on 15 businesses that sell tobacco within the city of Prior Lake and on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux reservation May 7.

The Prior Lake Police Department responded to the following incidents between May 7 and 14. This is not a comprehensive list of all incidents to which the department responded.

James and Holly Kes of Shakopee announce the birth of their daughter, Kendra Lynn, at 6:20 p.m. April 26, 2008 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.

She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 21 inches long. She has blue eyes and black hair.

Sometimes there seems to be confusion or misunderstanding between operating a motor vehicle on the roadways (with brakes and firm, positive steering), and operating a watercraft (with no brakes and no firm, positive steering) on a body of water.

The resignation of the Prior Lake-Savage Area School District’s human resources director is the latest in a series of shakeups in the district’s administrative staff.

Tony Massaros, director of human resources, announced that he will resign from the district July 1.

The Scott County Board last week raised the salary of its top employee by 4 percent.

County Administrator Dave Unmacht will now earn $136,245, as well as a continuance of his $300-per-month car allowance.

Last year, he received a 5.7-percent raise.
