Funny you should mention

Funny you should mention that...my friend bought tix for us on Friday (through the fan club)! I wasn't going to go to any more of their shows this summer, but I couldn't pass up a show in Prior Lake of all places!

The only thing I don't like is that the fan club seating isn't as close as it usually is, because the casino has reserved so many seats for "guests." The same thing happened when I saw them at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The GOOD thing about casino shows, though, is that half the time people don't show up for their seats, and those who do show up usually sit down for some bizarre reason, so at least I'll be able to see.

About a year and a half ago I did a story about a production company based in Minnesota, Loonatix. They're like hard-core down and dirty rockers. Very angry music they make.

If I recall correctly, one of their songs was about killing their girlfriends either by hanging or decapitating them.

As soon as I heard that song in the underground concert, I was outta there.

On my very first visit to Minnesota about six years ago, I stepped off the plane and headed downtown to Bunkers, where I saw G.B. Leighton -- it was love at first sound.

Whether it's original music or covers, I truly enjoy watching/hearing this band perform and I have become somewhat of a groupie. I've seen them perform more than any other group, I've bought CDs and T-shirts and I have one of Brian's guitar picks -- "Yeah Yeah Yeah"

I knew I was forgetting some fun Minnesota musicians. Rhymesayers Entertainment put Twin Cities hip hop on the global map with Atmosphere and Brother Ali.

I interned with Twin Tone in college. It really was amazing how many local musicians represented by Twin Tone influenced bands around the country, and world for that matter.

Tom, didn't you write about a band from Savage who had a hit in the past about wrastling? (I know it's wrestling).
You should provide the Youtube link to that!!

I have to go with Bob

I have to go with Bob Dylan.
Trampled by Turtles is an upcoming bluegrass band from Duluth who are a lot of fun to see, they too are in my favorites from Minnesota.
I also enjoyed (noticed the past tense) the Big Wu for a long time, but I think they fell apart musically in recent years.
Prince is an easy Minnesota favorite.
You have to repect Soul Asylum and The Replacements.
I also enjoy the live shows of Wookiefoot, God Johnson, who play weekly at the Cabooze, and The New Primatives, who play at Nye's Polonaise every Thursday.
Some of my friends used to play in a band called the Beads, who to this day is one of my favorite Minnesota bands.
I'll keep thinking and add to this later...

"I Feel It All" by Feist is a great theme song for me. It's extremely upbeat and makes me want to dance with my arms in the air. Plus the lyrics "I feel it all, I feel it all, my wings are wide, my wings are wide, wild card inside, wild card inside" make me think I should just live life in the moment and feel free to just be, to let go of all worries and insecurities. Here's the Feist video link, I think it shows the spirit of the song.

Well, I can't come up with my theme song just yet, but my Thanksgiving theme song is "Alice's Restaurant" by none other than Arlo Guthrie.

"You Only Live Once" by The Strokes. The lyrics are a bit abstract, but all kind of relate to the title in some way -- basically saying there are all kinds of things in this world that can leave you disillusioned, but you can choose to walk right past them and maintain your own good vibe, sort of espousing a live-and-let-live attitude. And the music is amazing -- the saucy beat and good-time attack of the band really lift you up. I don't know if there's such a thing as a skip-strut, but that's what the song makes me want to do. Check out the whimsical video.
