I guess profits are private and risks are public. $700 Billion and what are the conditions? Should CEOs of the companies getting "bailed out" give up their compensation so that they get paid equal to a public employee? Should the U.S. Government get stocks in return for the money so they can sell them when the stock price rises again? Currently, one person gets to decide where the money goes. And that person cannot be overridden nor any lawsuit be filed. No oversight. Hey...isn't that what got us into this mess in the first place??

That's a bit more complex, and a silly comparison to boot.

Yes, it does burn me that my tax dollars are paying for the dishonesty and bad judgement of somebody else, I hate bailouts and handouts, but, at the same time, not being a financial expert by any means, I have no way of knowing what the fallouts for everybody would be if we didn't bail them out, the cost could be much greater over the long haul due to the impact it could have on the market and the economy as a whole...so I guess it comes down to what is for the good of the whole...it costs my tax dollars to bail them out, but what would it do to my life overall if we didn't.

It's a silly comparison because if we don't save some stubborn/stupid person from a storm they were warned about, it has absolutely zero impact on anyone but them.

I don't entirely disagree with Traen personally. I don't see a developing tornado and getting caught in it as nearly the same thing as having many days of warnings and simply being to stupid to leave your house.

Rescue them, yeah, rescue them, but they ****** well better pay for it, it's the price of stupidity.

Though I appreciate the spirit and compassion of Lori's argument, I find the expense of having to save people that knew for DAYS a serious storm was coming a total waste.
