“More cuts to our music

“More cuts to our music education would be disastrous,” said the junior from Savage

This is how kids see things - in a very shortsighted, selfish and dramatic fashion. The sad thing is that the parents seem to be the same way. Are these kids going to be the same way as their parents when they grow up, making sure that EVERYBODY has to know how they personally feel about EVERY issue? How exhausting.

I'm a 31-year-old female, played in band from 5th grade to senior year, and probably haven't thought about it in 10 years until now. Band simply isn't as important as other classes, period. Sure it has its place, but "disastrous" if it were cut? Perhaps this junior needs to include simply picking up a dictionary in his studies to see what that word really means. I'm sure people in war zones and earthquake areas would have a lot of sympathy for this Einstein quoter.

If this budget crunch were in your own household, how would you solve it? Would you keep buying non-necessities if you couldn't afford it or would you stick to the basics?

Nothing is stopping the angry parents from donating extra money to the school above and beyond their taxes. And no, the wrapping paper, candy and all of the other stuff peddled to us all year doesn't count as a donation.

How do people fall for these

How do people fall for these Internet scams? I just don't understand, but there is probably a good explanation. It's just that I'm so protective of my credit card information, almost to the point of paranoia, that I doubt I am susceptible. Thanks to the police, FBI, et cetera, for watching out for us.

Well it is painfully clear the school board has failed us, the falling on the sword comment has merit. We need to do everything in our power as voters to make sure non of these incumbents are voted back.

Respectfully,
Dan Swanson
Why not use the 3.7 million from the stimulus to save the teacher's jobs like it was planned as to save jobs. If you use this money to pay for buildings and non jobs uses then it should be returned. The building isn't anything without teachers, because they do all the educating. Maybe from the outside it looks ok but from the inside the school, it goes against what we paid for. Larger class size etc. is exactly what we tried to avoid for a quality education and reason for new schools to have been built. Please use the money for what it was intended for and keep the teachers.

Sen. Sharon Erickson Ropes

Sen. Sharon Erickson Ropes of Winona will introduce Senate bill 3147, to the Senate tonight, which would ammend the current statute.
The proposed bill would call for the 2008 statute to be amended to read that the chiropractic board may not grant a chiropractic license to a felony-level sex offender. The proposed bill would also call for the immediate revocation of a chiropractic license if the person is convicted of a felony-level sexual offense.
Track the bill's progress at www.senate.leg.state.mn.us/bills/billinf.php?ls=86.
Enter the bill number, 3147, on the left hand side of the screen and click on the links to find out what the status of the bill is and to listen or view an archive of tonight's discussion in St. Paul.

Last night, David Letterman

Last night, David Letterman had some fun at Burkett's expense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SrZrqLXJW8&feature=player_embedded

She earned it. I just can't believe she's dominating the post-Oscar talk when so many other amazing things happened that night. I guess she really is the new Kanye.

Why is it that the short-film category is always like this.

They put the sci-tech awards on a separate day and then this year just flashed a quick picture up. These are the guys who actually did something that matters to everyone (such as the guys who invented steady cam, the lighting rigs that made Avatar possible, sound editing software) etc...)

What I would like to say to both of these people is:

You made a short movie that nobody saw.
No one cares what either of you have to say.

We want to get back to seeing the disaster of fashion, like
trying to figure how with all the people around no one said to Molly Ringwald - "Uh you know this is the academy awards not the shoot for the Bangel's video".
(If you are from the 80s you will get the reference)

I'm just happy director

I'm just happy director Roger Ross Williams finally got to give his speech, even if it was on the comparatively lesser-watched "Larry King Live." http://jezebel.com/5488772/pardon-the-interruption-oscar+winning-filmmak...

This is really awkward, though, but I feel bad for all of the people who would've gotten a second in the spotlight, even if just being mentioned by name, who had that moment taken from them. Regardless of how Burkett may have felt, I guess I feel like she went about it the wrong way and was very selfish. In her defense, though, she probably felt the same way about Williams.
