I love how mainstream sushi has become. It used to be regarded as cuisine only for the hip and rich (if any of you remember the lunch scene in "The Breakfast Club" you know what I mean) but now you can find it anywhere, including grocery stores. I really like sushi and am always looking for new places to go in the metro. I'm eager to try Kona Grill!

This sculpture reminds me of the "Top Chef" episode where a chef attempts to make a dish inspired by the Dale Chihuly sculpture at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Any connection between the design and Chihuly?

Well, I think I have more buttering-up to do than that, because I was the one who was taking thier picture for the paper. And after talking with a firefighter for about two minutes, you know how much they like having their picture taken for the paper (not).
But, as always, they are good sports about it and let me take my picture with a minimal amount of heckling (even more buttering-up).
So, I guess you do what you have to do, right Joanna (especially to get a chicken recipe like that).

Oh, and in addition to cooking up a mean chicken dinner, I learned that the firefighters’ softball team opened a can of whoop-ass on the New Prague Fire Department during the annual softball game by the score of 19-5.
What makes this sweet for the firefighters, is this is the first time since 1964 the softball team beat New Prague.
Now that’s the way to break out of a slump. Congrats to the fire department on the big win.

I ate at the chicken

I ate at the chicken barbecue last night and the food was as good as it smelled.
I couldn't get the secret chicken recipe from the cooks, but after eating it, I will keep on trying to pry that out of them.
The firefighters also cooked fresh corn they picked earlier in the day, boiled it and let it sit in butter before serving it. I was quite impressed... And now I'm hungry again.

I could smell this cooking well into the night (unless a neighbor was doing some late-night grilling) and it was fun to watch my dogs when I took them out to potty. They just stood there with their noses lifted high and working overtime trying to figure out where that smell was coming from (and, I'm sure, what the quickest route to find it was).

This talented Shakopee teen also performs magic tricks, is in the school choir and has been in several school plays.
This weekend, he and a couple dozen of his classmates from Shakopee High School will present a Youth Variety Show starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Shakopee's Huber Park, 600 Bluff Ave. E. (just off County Road 101).
Freewill donations will go to Invisible Children, a nonprofit working to improve the quality of life for children in war-torn Uganda.

It's fun watching the reactions from people as they see what the divers bring up. It's disheartening to see the kinds of things people toss into the lake, but the Prior Lake Association does a great job with this event, and the divers love participating. There was even a 14-year-old diver there this year!
