The remodelers have concentrated on the exterior work so we still have our stove and sink.
Access is the big issue. Because the back entrance floor will be raised, even though the doorway is framed in, they have the doorway covered with sheathing. Our only access to the house is through the front door. Because of foundation work they have to do, they tore out the front steps so we have been using a ramp for the last week and a half.
When they redid the electrical connection to the house they had to dig a trench from the electric pole out by the road up to the house. To get to the front door we had to cross a pallet bridge over the trench and then up the ramp. After that trench was filled in they dug down around the foundation last Friday to put in drainage and insulation. They added a railing to the ramp because now it spans a deep hole just as you get to the front door. It has been that way all weekend which has made it a challenge to take the dog in and out on her leash to go for a walk.
When they were excavating around the foundation they dug up two rusty metal wheels. I wish I knew the story of how they ended up buried next to the house--and what vehicle were they originally attached to??
One of the pictures attached shows the sun shining on what will be the concrete floor of the porch. Our designer used the calculator at http://www.susdesign.com/tools.php to help determine the amount of overhang needed to allow the sun to heat the floor in the fall/winter/spring but keep the floor shaded in the summer.
The arbors on each end of the porch are done, currently held up by temporary supports, and the main roof is shingled. The porch roof is ready for the metal roof that will match the barn roof we had installed last year.
By the end of the week all the concrete work should be done. Our new back door has been delivered.
