As I spent yet another Sunday afternoon watching the Vikings get out played and out coached by another NFC team, my attention turned to the predictability of the play-by-play commentators.
As many Vikings’ fans, I cringed as Brooks Bollinger entered the game that was still in reach, but it seemed as though the announcers were looking for another story.
As my friends and I were laughing about the fact that Bollinger entered the game throwing pass after pass, (to his credit he was completing them) I turned to a friend and said, “How long will it be until they call “Brooksie” a “spark plug”?
I could barely get the words out of my mouth and Bollinger was “the spark the Vikings needed.”
Are you kidding me?
As the announcers went on to talk about how the Eagles couldn’t prepare to face Bollinger because they prepared for Jackson and Holcomb, I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of wrinkle a fairly incapable back-up QB could play on a good defense.
Second of all, is there a defensive coordinator in the league that fears a Vikings’ QB?
If someone was to be a “spark” it was Adrian Peterson, who as Bollinger was completing passes began to break runs open.
I thought Bollinger did everything a third-stringer could do. He moved the ball better than any QB we have seen in purple all year.
But to call him “the spark the Vikings needed” was obnoxious.
What is the most ridiculous thing you have heard a color commentator say?
What sport clichés do you wish would disappear forever?

I think if you combined...
Back to page topI think if you combined Brooky's, Jackson's and Holcombe's abilities you might get Trent Dilfer.
The Vikings' QB situation is in that sad of shape.
