No blackout for the Vikings: I don’t care, I’ll be there

» Read similar stories filed under:

Thanks to the Fox affiliate, KMSP, buying the remaining 1,200 tickets, the Viking’s season opener against the Atlanta Falcons will be on local television Sunday.

Before that news was announced this afternoon on the KMSP Web Site,  I knew one thing; I was going to be watching the Vikings’ D, T-Jack, Chester and AP play in person.

 I have to go.

I have been to a lot of Vikings games over the past 10 years, but never a season opener, so I am excited.

The success the Viking’s could have this year is up in the air, literally.

Who will Jackson’s favorite target be?

Can you name the three Viking’s wide outs?

How about their new tight end?

Well, I know one thing.

No Viking receiver was drafted before the 12th round in either of my fantasy-football drafts, but their new tight end, Visanthe Shiancoe was taken in the 14th round in both drafts.

I’m sure everyone in my fantasy leagues will be watching to see if they should pick up Bobby Wade, Sidney Rice, Aundrae Allison or Troy Williamson on the waiver wires come Monday.

The running game is sure to be solid. I am a proud owner of both the parts of the two-headed monster Chester and AP in one fantasy league and I have Chester is the other, as well.

I’m a homer, but I think these will be good picks this season.

Questionable offense and fantasy football aside, I am excited to see what shenanigans the rowdy fans pull to get into the heads of the Falcon players who are now without their convicted leader.

After the Vikings were embarrassed by fans around the league following the party-boat scandal, I am curious to see what fans bring to the game in reference to the Falcon’s missing convict Michael Vick.

His absurd apology on a large poster board?

I think someone will do better than that.

It wouldn’t be a football crowd without some sort of Falcon-taunting over their fallen superstar.

I have vivid memories of rafts and Steve Smith’s touchdown celebration that mocked the boat scandal, so it would be fitting that there will be some sort of clown in the crowd to ridicule Vick’s atrocious behavior.

My prediction to the Vikings’ opener is Vikings 34, Falcons 17. Two of those touchdowns will come from Falcon’s quarterback Joey Harrington interceptions.

I think the Vikings have a good chance of beating up on the Falcons.

They will beat them up within the limits of the law. It may not be through electrocution, strangulation or gun shot, but I think out defense has a good chance at pushing Harrington around and stopping the once potent Falcon running game.

What are your week one predictions?

Who do you think will be the fantasy player of the week for the Vikings?

I'm looking forward to watching the Bears-Bolts game instead of the Queens..

And...

Bobby Wade, Sydney Rice, Troy Williamson and Robert Ferguson.

Top-ranked Eden Prairie may have a better four.

Don't forget the Vikings' No. 5 WR - rookie Aundrae Allison.

That must have been a great opener. The Vikings defense is one of the top 3 in the league.

And what a start for Adrian Peterson, who, after one game, is already the best back in our division by a mile.

Adrian Peterson and  the Vikings' defense made this game a lot of fun to watch. I think the Vikes will be fine, probably not a playoff team, but do fairly well if Jackson can continue to control the ball.

Peterson proved he will be a star in this league if he can stay healthy. My prediction of two defensive touchdowns came true. Thanks Joey Harrington.

My biggest dissapointment was the lack of Michael Vick razzing by the fans.

I heard a lot of barking and "who let the dogs out chants," but that was about it.

Our defense will get a little more of a challenge next week against Detroit, but I think they will be abe to stop the Lions.

Be fair to Harrington now. That second Vikings' defensive TD wasn't his fault. His pass only bounced off the chest of his WR, Michael Jenkins.

Harrington was running for his life in this game. But I hope he does well for Atlanta.

Playoffs for the Vikings?

With that defense, a strong running game, who knows. I think the Bears will take a step back this year. They've already lost two starters on defense. And Cedric Benson will be a major draft bust. For a big back, he runs with no power. He has no speed. And he has no shiftiness.

Sounds a lot like Curtis Enis and Rashaan Salam, to former first-round RBs drafted by the Bears.

So, let's say the Bears tumble back to 10-6. It's not impossible for the Vikings to get to that record with a little luck. This is the NFL. Saints were 3-13 two years ago and in the NFC title game last year.

You're right. I should be a little more fair to Harrington. The second interception wasn't his fault. He was getting hit and rushed all day long. It is good to see a good pass rush, again.

If the Bears do stumble to 10-6, the Vikings could get to that record with a little luck.

The way I see it we are an 8-8 team, but with some luck and solid defense, we could sneak into the playoffs. The NFL is a crazy league.
