Hello, welcome to my intern blog here at Southwest Newspapers Group. My name is Robert Lawson, but everyone calls me Rob. Here you will find blog entries about everything from news, entertainment, rants and raves and other various topics. So let me tell ya'll a little about myself.
I am a recent graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, where I studied journalism and technical communication. I first started going to college as a high school student from Albert Lea, MN in Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO). I started my academic endeavors as a Broadcasting and Liberal Arts major at Lake Superior College in Duluth. I mostly chose this because it was an easy transition for me. You see, I have been recording music since I was about 14 years old, and the technology is very similar in the broadcast industry. I excelled at it. But I wanted to take my education further, so I moved to Mankato. I was very interested in the goings-on of the world and wanted to take that, along with my creative skills, and apply it to some sort of practicum. That happened to be media. I love media and all its forms. It is enjoyable to me. Call me crazy, but I think it is my calling.
I wrote for two college newspapers: Lake Superior College Student Newspaper and The Reporter (MSU) and msureporter.com. A semester prior to graduation, I took on a role as Student Newsletter Web Editor for the MSU Media Relations Department and Integrated Marketing Office. In June of 2007, I began writing on the web and have been published (but paid pennies) on Suite101, Helium, eHow, Associated Content, and others. I also worked for nwa.com as a technical support agent. In 2005, when I first arrived in Mankato, I interned at a recording studio, indie record label and magazine publisher downtown. The studio was called Two Fish Studios. The magazine was called Static. The label, Aquarium Records, was part of the No Alternative Music Group umbrella. At Lake Superior, I served as the Public Relations Liaison for the LSC student senate.
So anyway, I'm very interested in public affairs, music, film, art, business (sort of), sports and technology. I created a fully functional news website as part of my independent study in journalism. I like graphic design and web design. So that's me. I hope you enjoy my blog!
