What's your least favorite word?

Everyone has them...those words that make you cringe.

As an editor, I used to have a list of my least favorite words next to my desk. As a person who can't keep her desk clean, I've lost that list.

But below are some of my least favorite words (can you tell I have a deep disdain for words often uttered at meetings of government bodies and/or slapped into virtually every canned press release?)

What are your least favorite words? Share them below (and remember, no swearing allowed).

My least favorites:

slated (who says this??)

slaying (dragons are slayed; people are killed or murdered)

probe (i.e. when used in place of "investigation")

stakeholder (overused/"meeting-speak")

bituminous (can't we just call it blacktop?)

vision (overused)

significant (to whom?)

numerous (how many??)

diverse (vague)

reside (who says "I reside in Prior Lake"?)

implemented (again...who says this in everyday conversation?)

downsizing (firing, anyone?)

drop (as in "the album drops July 5")

What-ev-er (pause after each syllable with teenage attitude).

If I never hear this word again from my daughter or 40-something sister -- who even uses "W.E." in e-mail responses -- it will be too soon!

Interesting (this word really doesn't convey whether you like or dislike the thing which you're discussing and it's used way too often)

Moist towelette - I don't like how it sounds. Which is ironic, because I think it's a great invention. They always have such a light, lemony smell.

I just dislike the name for some reason. Wet nap isn't much better, either.

Sippy cup - my husband absolutely hates when I use this word, but with a 2-year-old I use it a lot.

I can't stand the word "ain't" - even when it's in a song. I often change the word when I'm singing along to be more grammatically correct. I'm a dork.

My all-time least favorite word is "all's".

All's I'm saying is I don't like it very much.

Oh, and I agree that moist is a terrible word and should be avoided.

The word "Cool" or "Stuff".

"Cool" being it is just way over used.
"Stuff" being it is just boring, uncreative, non descriptive.

The word "planful" is one of my new least favorite words. It reminds me of "Office Space" jargon.
