Nader for president?

No votes yet

So, Ralph Nader is going for it - again.

What do you think about his run for president in 2008?

Do you think Nader cost Al Gore the election in 2000? If so, could he do the same this time around?

How do you feel about Nader's argument that the nation needs people like him to change the political system?

Back to page top

I think Nader's run for president is a sad joke. He will probably get even fewer votes than he did in 2004 when he was a non-factor.

Many if not most of Nader's supporters are very left wing so I think it is plausible to suggest that Nader sucked enough Florida votes away from Gore in 2000 to cost Gore the election. What we don't know is if those people would have voted at all if they didn't have Nader to vote for as some people don't vote if they don't like any of the candidates.

It's a free country so Nader or anyone is free to run for office, but the country doesn't need people like him any more than we need other irrelevant people running for office. His time has passed and he should enjoy his retirement.

Nader should just hang it up. He was a cute novelty in 2000 who must have appealed to at least a few voters but I agree that in 2004 he was a non-factor and is even less of a factor this year.

It seems that Nader might turn into another Harold Stassen as a perennial candidate for president. This is his 5th try. When he was a candidate on the Green Party ticket, in 1996 and 2000, a vote for him was a vote to strengthen the Green Party and the third party movement in later elections. In 2004 he sought but did not get the Green Party nomination.
I do think with as close as the 2000 election was he did help the Republicans that year... which led the the 8 disastrous years of George Bush.

I voted for Nader in 2000...

Back to page top

I voted for Nader in 2000 and 2004 for several reasons and would do so again.
1. I think the two party system we have (DFL and REP) is VERY ineffective and was not even something required in the Constitution. We need more voices / choices in our leaders, like Nader.
2. I don't have much respect for most politicians. Politicians think they do a lot for the people, but not really. I think people would be fine without them. With that said, I think the only candidate that has ever personally made my life better is Nader with his "Unsafe at any speed". How many people owe their lives to his efforts to put seatbelts in cars?

As a 2004 Nader voter, I would have NEVER cast a vote for Gore. I do not think Nader cost Gore the election. I will continue to vote for a third-party candidate until society abandons its failed feeling of security in a two-party system. We would be better off with a jury-duty-like selection of our legislatures and presidents than the system we have today.

There's one thing Democrats and Republicans are lock-step with each other. That's making sure a third party never comes to fruition, at least not with the power they have.

The mainstream media is blind too.

I didn't know Nader was running this time around, haven't even heard his name...which says something about his ineffectiveness.

It seems to me some of the best action we could take with these two lame parties is to simply vote to make sure neither is in total power, keep them in gridlock so they fight along themselves and actually cdo as little as possible and let society and the free market run itself like it should.

The more we can keep government out of the way the better. Keep them from passing their stupid laws, inacting cost controls, wage controls and other such idiocy and letting society run itself through free market supply and demand would work better.
