This year was my second-annual trip to St. Paul's Lutheran Church to donate blood here in Prior Lake. I kept my word from a column I wrote last year and rolled up my sleeves again to give some of my liquid gold (aka type O negative).

This year, I'm happy to report that I didn't get woozy/dizzy at all. No one had to catch me in a dramatic faint. It was pretty anti-climactic, actually.

But, I did learn a piece of Prior Lake trivia from some of my fellow donors that made my ears perk up.

They said when the drive was held at the Prior Lake VFW years ago, the VFW would provide beer and egg-salad sandwiches to donors.

Now, I'm pretty sure drinking was on the "not to do" list after donating.

Funny how times change.
