What's your Election Day plan?

» Read similar stories filed under:

With record turnouts expected and reports of long lines in states that have early voting, do you have a "voting plan" for Tuesday, Nov. 4?

My husband and I plan to fire up the coffee pot, dress warmly and get to the church where we vote by 6 a.m. We'll probably feel like fans waiting to buy concert tickets, but hopefully we'll beat the crowds expected by 7 a.m.! We would go in mid-afternoon, but we'll both be working outside our precinct.

Where do you vote, and what time do you plan to get to the polls?

We got to our polling location in Minneapolis by 6:15 this morning, and there were three people already in line, sitting in lawn chairs and sipping coffee. We were Nos. 4 and 5. By 6:30, there were at least 40 people in line, and by the time the polls opened at 7, the line was wrapped around the building (the Star Tribune, which had a photographer there, says there were 125 in line by the time the doors opened).

We saw some of our neighbors and chit-chatted with others we hadn't yet met. It was good to see so many come out to cast their votes. Things ran pretty smoothly inside; there were quite a few voting booths and quick and helpful election officials.

So how was your voting experience? Log in or register and tell us here!

My plan was not to go to my polling place until after 9 a.m. so that I wouldn't get caught in the crush of people voting before they went to work (love flexible hours -- and I'll be at work late tonight covering the election). My plan worked spectacularly. I was in and out in just a few minutes more than it took me to fill out my ballot.

My plan is to leave work between lunch and 5 somewhere, get out of work a bit early, get to the polls before the after work rush, then go home and drink the rest of the night while watching the returns to kill the pain. :-)
