Jury duty scam - be aware

» Read similar stories filed under:

FYI.....

Protect your personal identity.

Please beware of the “Jury Duty Scam,” a new identity theft scam recently verified by the FBI. In this telephone scam, someone calls your home, claiming to be a jury coordinator. The caller claims that, because you have ignored a jury duty summons, a warrant has been issued for your arrest. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant.

Do not give the caller any personal information, even if he or she uses intimidation or claims to be representing the court system. If you do, the scammer can use that information to steal your identity and make transactions in your name.
