I don't know enough about the financial markets to know if the bailout was necessary or not. But, I know that small businesses were starting to get hurt because they couldn't get any credit. And, I hope that if the bailout is going to bring relief that it comes soon because it is getting really bad for people.
First gas price, then mortages, now jobs and a bailout. It seems like Congress doesn't have any idea how much people are suffering. I found this site that is collecting stories about how the economy is affecting us. They plan to put them together so they can relay a message to Congress. I sent in my story. Check it out. . .

I keep checking back because they are going to post the stories on the site. I really want to see what other people have to say. I hear stuff from my neighbors, but what about people in other parts of the country.
Is the economy hurting you? It has definatley affected me and my family.

In my household, we've been doing OK, but in the last year we've definitely started to feel a pinch. I've found myself relying on the credit card more than I'd like, even sometimes for things like gas.
We've had to reassess our spending and choose one purchase over another in some cases. The fabulous trip to the Cayman Islands we'd hoped to take this winter has turned into a new fridge, stove and microwave since we really need to replace our ancient appliances and we likely won't be able to afford both the appliance replacement AND a trip.
We're certainly lucky we're still able to make those kinds of choices, so I'm not complaining. We're just having to take a closer look at the financial picture than we used to!

Back to page topFor us it isn't really damaging yet in the immediate term, but our retirement plans are taking a bit of a thrashing...
From the people I know in my social circle it seems the people suffering in their immediate lives are the ones that over extended themselves in the first place...too big of a house, bad mortgage choice, living beyond means and the like, so much of it seems to be a "reap what you sow" situation. Still sucks, but...
A lot of people seem to be blaming the gov't for lack of regulation, misappropriating money and all that, which, sure, they can be an easy target, but if the consumer was a little more responsible for themselves and not looking for the gov't to babysit their choices this problem wouldn't be nearly as bad as it is.
People can be really stupid.
