Iron Maiden is a sweet name for a band.
How about - The Dixie Chicks.

What about the Moldy Peaches?
They sing "Anyone Else But You" in the movie "Juno."

I love that Bob Dylan's back-up band in the mid-60's released their own music under a name as simple as "The Band."

Some others are "The Hold Steady," "Government Mule," "Trampled by Turtles" and "Rage Against the Machine."

I've always thought that "Midnight Oil" was an awful name.

I've always liked names that start with The. Like The Doors, The Strokes, The Beatles, The Clash, The Fray, The Stooges, The Sex Pistols.

Wait ... THE New Kids on the Block.

How about . . .

"The Well Hungarians" ?

OK, some band names that start with THE are not sweet. There's The The a simple case of a band trying too hard to be clever and failing miserably. There's The Barenaked Ladies, The Polyphonic Spree, and The Spice Girls, to name a few.

One More - The Alan Parsons Project - very bad name.

I thought of two more - The Who and The Scorpions.

A couple more for the trash heap: Air Supply (this would only be a good band name if you lived in Atlantis) and Boston (this is not even a good band name if you live in Boston); also 30 Odd Foot of Grunts (which is Russell Crowe's band, which brings up an entirely different topic about stinking bands and the actors that start them -- but since the digression has already happened, how bad a name is 30 Seconds to Mars -- Jared Leto's band? And then there's Dogstar, Keanu Reeves' ill-named band). And though I love the band, I can't support naming a group The Flying Burrito Brothers.

On the plus side: The Minutemen, Jane's Addiction, Pavement and Crazyhorse.

How about the name of a great punk band, Dropkick Murphy's.

I think the members of Dropkick Murphy's would smash a guitar over Donnie Wahlberg's head and then throw Jordan Knight off the stage. In true punk fashion, of course.

I'm sure Marky Mark would come to the aid of his brother. Have you seen his abs?

Here's a great name for a group - The Silver Platters.

Stink: Cranberries, Blind Melon, Death Cab for Cutie, Flock of Seagulls, Fine Young Cannibals, The Go-Gos, Hootie and the Blowfish, Night Ranger, No Doubt, Stone Temple Pilots and Toad the Wet Sprocket.

And what about the Far Out Space Nuts? You have to love a whole series predicated on Bob Denver hitting the "launch" button instead of the "lunch" button. Good stuff there!
