Grainwood Elementary third-graders spent Monday, Oct. 6, identifying trees with District Naturalist Andrea Swanson.

To help protect wetlands on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, the SMSC will install approximately 15,000 square feet of pervious pavement in the former Little Six Casino parking lot that will absorb water that falls on it and allow it to seep into the ground.

As part of the same project the SMSC will also build two rain gardens for impervious pavement to drain into.

Roger William Whipps, 54, of Jordan, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 3-8 p.m. at Ballard–Sunder Funeral Home in Jordan. There also will be visitation at the church one hour prior to services.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan with Father Timothy Yanta and Deacon Al Schroeder presiding.

James “Jim” Hill, 78, of Prior Lake, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee.

Funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 3611 North Berens Road N.W., Prior Lake, with visitation at the church two hours prior to service.

I don't know enough about the financial markets to know if the bailout was necessary or not. But, I know that small businesses were starting to get hurt because they couldn't get any credit. And, I hope that if the bailout is going to bring relief that it comes soon because it is getting really bad for people.
